Ministry for Water Resources, Works and Housing

The Ministry of Works and Housing has as its main functions the formulation and co-ordination of policies and programmes for the systematic development of the country's infrastructure requirements in respect of Works, Housing, Water Supply and Sanitation and Hydrology. The Ministry co-ordinates and supervises, by way of monitoring and evaluation of the performance of both public and private agencies responding to and participating in the realisation of the policy objectives established for the sector

The Ministry has four directorates:

  • Policy Planning Budgeting Monitoring and Evaluation (PPBME)
  • Human Resource Development Unit (HRDU)
  • Research Statistics Information Management (RSIM); and
  • Administration and Finance

The Ministry is headed by Mr. Alban Bagbin. The deputy minister for Works sector is Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, and the deputy minister for Water is Hannah Bissiw.

GOV'T ENERGY LABELLING SYSTEM FOR BUILDINGS

Government will soon develop energy-demand-labelling system for buildings to serve as a requirement before they are constructed for sale in the country.

This is part of government’s effort in ensuring that all newly developed housing estates are built to high environmental standards, and based on energy efficiency and water conservation

Mustapha Ahmed who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East constituency in the Greater Accra Region, said the NDC government is conscious of the Basic Right of every Ghanaian child to education and has channeled resources for the development of education.

NEWLY REGISTERED ARCHITECTS INDUCTED

The Architects Registration Council (ARC) an Agency under the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing (MWRWH) has admitted 20 newly trained architects into its fold at an induction ceremony held at the Ghana-Indian Kofi Annan ITC Center on 4th August, 2011 in Accra.

The event was graced by the Deputy Minister for WRWH, Major (rtd) Dr. Mustapha Ahmed who represented the Minister for WRWH Hon. Alban Bagbin as a special guest of honour.

THE STX HOUSING FINALLY TAKES-OFF

The long awaited STX-Ghana housing project has finally taken-off with the clearing of the land at the Atomic Energy-Kwabenya site in Accra.

Works on the Burma Camp and Tesano sites, both in Accra would commence this week, according to a Ghanaian director of STX-Ghana, Mr. B.K Asamoah.

RURAL WATER COVERAGE HIT 63 PERCENT- BAGBIN

The Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing Mr Kingsford Sumani Alban Bagbin, says Ghana’s rural water coverage is now 63 per cent showing an increase of 5.86 per cent from 2008.  

Taking his turn at the Meet-The-Press series in Accra, on Tuesday, he said government in line with the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda and the Millennium Development Goal number seven was improving access to safe drinking water and decent sanitation facilities in rural communities.

NDC unveils a Better Social Housing Agenda for Ghanaians

The NDC has a vision for strong, safe and stable communities in the country. It is that wherever we live and wherever we are, we can have access to the things that make our lives fulfilling, including decent housing and a sense of belonging to the community in which we live.

Having regard to the above statement, the NDC Manifesto pledged to facilitate access to decent housing by the ordinary Ghanaians, strenuous and sustained efforts were to be made to mitigate the housing deficit. The NDC government between 1996 -2000 built the following housing complexes;
