Minister For Work And Housing Inspects Flood Prone Area

Hon. Atta Akyea, The Minister for Works and Housing together with the management of the Ministry inspected the flood prone areas that were seriously affected by the downpour on Sunday, 26th February, 2016.
At Asylum Down, a bridge constructed over the main drain a few months ago to facilitate water flow from the Nima drains to the Odaw River had collapsed. According to some residents this occurrence caused their homes to flood which led to the destruction of their properties worth thousands of cedis.
Reaction to this incident, the Hon. Minister criticised the contractor who constructed the bridge and assured the residents that the Ministry will investigate and sanction the contractor appropriately.
The Hon. Minister also visited Alajo and the Odaw River at Kwame Nkrumah interchange were the floods had swept away the wares of traders.
Hon. Atta Akyea emphasised the need and the importance of finding a lasting solution to this perennial flooding which continue to destroy lives and property during raining season than to resort to temporary measures which are costly.
According to the Hon. Minister, an amount of $700 million is required to implement a master plan that had been drawn to end the perennial floods. He further stated that “I am going to push that we find funds to do it”.
To ameliorate and prevent the loss of lives and properties during the coming raining season, Hon. Atta Akyea assured that, the Ministry will work together with Dredge Masters t desilt the drains.

Hon. Minister’s Thank You Meeting with Heads

The Hon. Minister for Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing DR. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has thanked heads of agencies and departments under the ministry for their support during his turner of office.
He said he has enjoyed his stay and the support offered him and his deputies at the ministry during their stay at the ministry, and pray for continuous support for the incoming minister and his deputies. He however advised staff not to engage in divisive tendency such as backbiting and act that will not foster heathy relationship with their colleagues and superiors.
In related development, the Minister has also interacted with members of staff including Directors of his ministry with a call on them to remain loyal to their superiors, adding that “governments come and go” hence civil servants must remain neutral to politicians

Water Minister Lobby For Chinese Investment In Housing and Water Sector

Hon. Ministers visit to China 4Hon Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang Mensah has asked Chinese investors to increase their investment in Ghana since the Country remains a stable democracy capable of promoting and safeguarding Chinese investments.

The Minister was speaking at the Global Production in WAHUN, China. The Minister who is leading a six member government delegation including the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry Hon. Mutala Mohammed, CEO of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Mr Clement Bugasi, said government is ready to collaborate with Chinese companies to expand the infrastructure especially in the water, hosing and coastal protection sub sectors. The forum attracted over 300 Chinese enterprises from different sectors of the economy.

Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Mensah however, entreated the Chinese business men and women to avail themselves for more information in Ghana and explore the investment opportunities that are abound in the country.

Parliamentary Select Committee On Works And Housing Calls On The Minister For Works And Housing

The parliamentary select committee on works and Housing led by Hon. Sampson Ahi, MP and Ranking member of the committee called on Hon. Atta Akyea, Minister for Works and Housing on Monday, 27th February, 2017 to congratulate him on his appointment and to also acquaint themselves with happenings in the sector.
Hon. Atta Akyea, was full of appreciation for their visit and assured members of the select Committee of the commitment of the Ministry in Working assiduously with them to achieve desired goals. He emphasised, this assertion when he said that, “I will seek your opinion in all matters relating to the ministry”.
Responding, they Ranking Member on behalf of the Chairman for the Select Committee expressed their profound gratitude for the warm welcome and fruitful discussions held. He further assured the Hon. Minister of the Committee’s unflinching support to work of the Ministry.

Winneba And Essakyir Water Projects in Central Region Progress

Winneba And Essakyir Water Projects in Central Region Progress 4In an effort to provide access to safe and affordable water for all by the year 2020, the Hon. Minister for water resources works, and housing, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has inspected the Winneba Water Rehabilitation project and the Essakyir Water Supply project to ascertain the progress of the ongoing works.
Hon. Minister was joined on the inspection by the Deputy Minister in charge of Water, Hon. Samuel Yaw Adusei, the Chief Director, the Director of Water, the Dep. Managing Director,  GWCL including other staff from the Ministry.
Both project are progressing steadily and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Hon. Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the level of work delivered by the contractors at the winneba project site and charged them to expedite action on the work.
He also tasked the contactors of the Essakyir project to speed up with the pipe laying works in order to supply water to the distressed communities.
